Shannon Bates Named 2019 Professional Excellence Honoree by Texas Lawyer

Harper & Bates LLP is pleased to announce partner Shannon Bates has been named a 2019 Professional Excellence Honoree for being a "Best Mentor" by Texas Lawyer.

The criterion for selection was based on attorneys who have helped less-experienced colleagues become better lawyers. During her legal career, Bates has trained and mentored many associates, patent agents, and paralegals, building strong and enduring relationships.

She is actively involved in several professional groups, including the Barbara M.G. Lynn Inn of Court, the State Bar of Texas Intellectual Property Law Section, the DFW Women in IP Group, and the Dallas Bar Association Intellectual Property Law Section, which she chairs. Through these organizations, Bates has developed meaningful relationships with many intellectual property attorneys in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and across the State of Texas.

Bates is also the Director of the Patent Clinic at the SMU Dedman School of Law, where she teaches and manages a group of students who are provided limited recognition to practice intellectual property law before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Bates will be profiled in the September issue of Texas Lawyer magazine and will be recognized at an awards reception on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at the Belo Mansion in Dallas.
